The Sant Vicenç dels Horts City Council celebrated the second edition of the Fava d’Or de Cacau awards, a distinction to the 50 best pastry shops in Catalonia within the framework of the fourth edition of the Mostra Internacional de Pastisseria that the municipality organized between Saturday and last Monday.
The three most outstanding awards went to the Barcelona-based Escribà (living tradition), Santacreu from Viladecane ( innovation) and Uñó from Matador (singular sweet).
The Mostra aims to give value to the professional activity of the pastry sector among the general public and its awards recognize the best establishments in Catalonia through a selection process carried out by expert personnel.
The jury was made up of pastry teachers, gastronomy journalists and pastry chefs who do not own a pastry shop because they work in restaurants or academies . The team of judges was led by Marc Balaguer, Spanish pastry champion in 2015 and runner-up in the world of ice cream parlor 2018, and Josep Sucarrats, director of the magazine ‘Cuina’.
For Balaguer, “the pastry shop is one of our greatest gastronomic jewels”. “We have a very high level of demand, professionalism and creativity : with these awards we want to contribute to the recognition of the sector and to get even closer to the general public”, he added.
The coordinating group of the jury made an assessment of all the pastry shops and preselected those that the jury finally visited. Of these, the 50 best have been chosen and, in addition, 10 special mentions have been awarded in the following categories:
Fava d’Or for the best pastry shop in your area: Barcelona and counties ( Hofmann ), Garraf / Anoia / Penedès / Baix Llobregat ( Targarona ), Gironès ( Tornés ), Central Catalonia ( El Cigne ), Ponent ( Tugues ), Pyrenees ( Gil ) and Camp de Tarragona and Terres de l’Ebre ( L’Obrador ).
This year, due to the pandemic, the Cacau Fava d’Or awards ceremony and all the events of the Mostra Internacional de Pastisseria have been held online.
